View of Edinburgh Castle and the city from the Braid Hills, a 10-15 minute walk from the house

View of Edinburgh Castle and the city from the Braid Hills, a 10-15 minute walk from the house

Broompark has the best of both worlds: an almost rural location yet within the city, only minutes from the city bypass and a short bus ride or drive by car into the city centre. A 15- to 20-minute walk brings you to a bus stop, with services that run into the city centre and all the way on to Leith and the berth of the Royal Yacht Brittania. Alternatively, to avoid city-centre parking charges, there are a selection of buses for the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle and city centre shopping areas, with free car parking at local bus stops. This means that all the attractions of Edinburgh's Old Town and New Town are just a short bus ride away.

Located on the Braid Hills, there are great walks, golf on the municipal golf course 300 metres away or on the adjacent driving range at Braid Hills Golf Centre. Blackford Hill, a little nearer the city centre, is home to the Royal Observatory. Not far is Craigmillar Castle, one of the oldest tower houses in Scotland, with links to Mary Queen of Scots and a strategic location with commanding views over the city. There are also some fantastic longer walks and biking opportunities in the nearby Pentland Hills and around the famous Arthurs Seat.

As befits the countryside feel of the location, pony trekking is available at the nearby Tower Farm Riding School and Stables, with many scenic rides, much of them off road. Broompark is a short drive from Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, and other Edinburgh hospitals, so is a good base for any visiting medics. The Stable Bar at Mortonhall is a short walk or drive away, with its sunny courtyard in summer, roaring fire in winter, and good food and drink all year round.

Getting there

Broompark is best reached by car, and it's just a few minutes drive from the city bypass (A720). We will send you full details when we confirm your booking. For those arriving by public transport, there is a frequent bus service from the Edinburgh Airport Express bus terminal and from Edinburgh Waverley railway station; it's a 15-20 minute walk from the bus stop.

  • “Home away from home: Broompark is the best of both worlds. Located in beautiful Scottish countryside yet with very easy access to all the delights of Edinburgh. Booking through Vacation Rentals is excellent as Martin is super responsive to emails and goes out of his way to be of assistance. Nothing is too much trouble and we felt totally confident with the booking and payment systems. Linda, the owner of Broompark, lives next to the house. She is welcoming, hospitable and goes out of her way to ensure that everything is just right for her guests. Stunning country walks are on the doorstep yet Edinburgh city is only a £20 taxi ride if you want to leave the car at home. Local shops for necessities are a 5 minute car ride and the bigger supermarkets about 10 minutes away. Both are easy walks for the more energetic amongst us. Access to the motorway is very straightforward and the delights of the Borders are just over an hour away. The house is very comfortable and the living and sleeping quarters are both generous in size. On a sunny day, coffee, breakfast or bubbles on the terrace overlooking the beautiful garden add to the feeling of having an escape to the country. With family and friends in Scotland, we feel we’ve found the perfect spot to add to our list of places that will definitely be part of future trips. Special thanks to both Martin and Linda and every best wish for the future. Businesses and services like yours deserve support. See you again.”

  • “A beautiful location with lovely walks and views around. There was everything you could want for a good stay. We were in Edinburgh to visit relatives so I have to say that we weren’t in the house very much but the time spent there was great. The owner, Linda, who lived in the other part of the property, was very helpful and always available a the end of the phone. Great home and beautiful surroundings. Thank you for your hospitality.”

  • “We had a fantastic week exploring Edinburgh. Broompark is a great location to most attractions. The house also made our holiday: such a warm and welcoming house to relax in due to the beautiful views and surroundings. But most of all, in the current situation, we felt safe as the cleanliness of the house was excellent. Definitely would love to come again in the near future.”

  • “From the initial booking with Martin through to welcome on arrival with Linda it was wonderful. Super property with all of the amenities we needed to spend a lovely time with family. Spacious lounge and dining area with 3 well-proportioned bedrooms with facilities made for a home away from home feel. This house may be in Edinburgh but it is situated in the countryside with fantastic views of the city ... Greenfields and stabled horses are all around and access to transport is just down the single paved road. I very much recommend this property to people who appreciate quality and friendship.”

We rented a car and drove to Inverness and St. Andrews; they were easy day trips and amazing drives. The area around the house is breathtaking. I was able to take a different route each morning on my run. The golf course is open and beautiful. The house is well equipped with everything you need including maps and suggestions for tours and local attractions. Booking was easy Martin was very helpful and responded promptly. Linda was great as well greeted us and provided lots of ideas. We were very pleased with our stay and highly recommend it for families as there is lots of space and two parks very close.”

  • “The house is very beautiful with three bedrooms. You commune with nature when you stay here. Very relaxing. Uber or taxis are just a phone call away to bring you to the city center. Very clean house. They have oven and complete kitchen ware. Their washing machine is a plus because we were able to wash our clothes. Linda, the owner, is very nice ... She replies immediately whenever we have inquiries or concerns. Our family will love to stay here again the next time we visit Edinburgh.”

  • “Wonderful, roomy, well equipped, lovely location: An ideal property for 4 adults and 3 children, with lots of space for running (or sitting) around. The kitchen is well equipped, if a bit small, but all other rooms are excellent. The children loved the horses in the fields and the walk to the nearest (No 11) bus stop on Frogston Road. We coped admirably without a car, only using taxis when we had luggage or it was late and booking an online supermarket delivery for groceries. Once the children had gone home [they stayed for only a few days], we walked into the city centre and back, via the Braid Hills, with fantastic views of Arthur's Seat and the Firth of Forth, then across the Meadows and up to the Royal Mile. The April weather was cold but sunny and we really enjoyed our stay.”
